Akela Lacy on Instagram: "In the early hours of Friday morning, 13 police officers stormed a house in West Philly occupied by pro-Palestine student organizers at the University of Pennsylvania. The reason? Suspicion of vandalism related to paint thrown on a statue a month ago as part of protests against the war on Gaza. “The raid on Friday was a clear act of institutional and state-sponsored terror,” said one student who was present for the raid. “At the end of the day 12 cops showed up with tactical gear and rifles against kids in a quiet neighborhood. It’s hard for me to believe that was justified, legal or not,” said @repkrajewski. The way police handled the raid was jarring, said Radhika Sainath, senior staff attorney at Palestine Legal. “The disproportionate use of force over a suspected vandalism incident that occurred over a month ago quite honestly shocks the conscience.” The Philadelphia DA approved the warrant based on evidence provided by Penn police.
