- Structure: Your thoughts sometimes meander - consider organizing points before speaking
- Repetition: You often repeat information - try to be more concise
- Transitions: Work on smoother transitions between topics
- Pacing: You frequently backtrack to clarify - try to present information more linearly
- Focus: Consider using bullet points or an outline to stay on track
Overall, your passion for the game and commitment to community building comes through clearly, but more structured delivery would enhance clarity.

(00:00:00): Hello everyone,
(00:00:01): my name is Kyle and I want to introduce you to a tabletop game called Tales from Tomorrow.
(00:00:08): It's a Fallout TTRPG story that I'm hosting along with three other comrades of mine.
(00:00:14): This is using Modiphius' 2D20 system.
(00:00:17): And this is built in the universe of Bethesda's Fallout.
(00:00:21): It's been a wonderful time synchronization for me to find this game along with the
(00:00:25): wonderful show that came out on Amazon Prime.
(00:00:28): I myself have been a Fallout 76 player for the past couple years.
(00:00:32): Very on and off.
(00:00:33): Very sporadic.
(00:00:34): But it seems like we've got a lot of great people in and around our community who
(00:00:37): love the Fallout space.
(00:00:39): I think Fallout is a beautiful game.
(00:00:41): It's a beautiful landscape to tell stories,
(00:00:45): especially this late-stage capitalism,
(00:00:48): ultra-decay that people are witnessing in their everyday life is exemplified in the
(00:00:53): Fallout universe.
(00:00:54): And if anything, there's a lot of Fallout players who seem a little unaware of this.
(00:00:58): of the real life parallels where even at the time I'm recording this,
(00:01:02): tensions between the United States and China are at an all time high.
(00:01:06): Nuclear weapons have never been more likely to be used than now.
(00:01:10): And this is me saying this in January of 2025.
(00:01:14): So there's going to be a lot of reality that underpins or intermixes with this game.
(00:01:21): So let's again,
(00:01:23): I'll keep summarizing this throughout because I'm tripping up over my own thoughts.
(00:01:26): I'm a brand new dungeon master or game master.
(00:01:29): In this case, the term is overseer.
(00:01:32): I'm a very new game master, though.
(00:01:34): This is the first game I've ever seen.
(00:01:37): hosted.
(00:01:37): It's the first game that I've actually really played.
(00:01:40): And I once did a D&D session in college about 10 or more years ago.
(00:01:45): It was a good experience, but it was a very small thing.
(00:01:48): And it wasn't with a group of friends that
(00:01:51): were mine.
(00:01:52): And so that was lacking.
(00:01:53): It was a good experience, but it wasn't a really like, I guess, heart touching one.
(00:02:00): I had a very dear friend that hosted that game, but everyone else wasn't a friend of mine.
(00:02:04): So this is a brand new experience for me hosting it with three comrades that I really trust.
(00:02:10): And some of them I've known for many years at this point,
(00:02:13): three to five years hit and miss in there.
(00:02:16): They've been great sports about learning the system.
(00:02:19): Maybe I should start there in saying we've been toying with this Fallout 2D20
(00:02:24): system from Modiphius since approximately March of 2024.
(00:02:30): It's getting close to a year now.
(00:02:32): It's taken us a long time because none of us are tabletop players.
(00:02:36): Everyone has just been going at their own pace.
(00:02:39): We've taken a lot of weekends off.
(00:02:42): But as we're in this new year, we want to get more serious about it.
(00:02:45): At least I do.
(00:02:46): I've expressed to all of them,
(00:02:47): and they share this,
(00:02:49): that we want to bring our passion for this game to the community in the hopes of
(00:02:54): meeting other like-minded players who would want to join us in one-shots or whether
(00:02:59): that's recurring characters in this campaign.
(00:03:02): We want to make a community sort of feeling for people,
(00:03:05): and we're going to play with that idea as time goes on.
(00:03:09): In this episode, I'm going to read a blog post I have.
(00:03:14): It's titled Descent into the Wendigo's Grotto.
(00:03:18): This is a sort of bridge piece.
(00:03:20): They are, my players, at the end, the capstone of their year-long tutorial.
(00:03:27): As we've been learning new systems for the game,
(00:03:29): as we've been plotting along through this very interesting and turn-riddled plot,
(00:03:35): I let my players...
(00:03:37): come up with a lot of the content that we're doing in the game.
(00:03:39): I'm a very reactive DM.
(00:03:42): I like to see their mindset, what they want to do, and then I like to follow them.
(00:03:47): So as a DM or a game master, as an overseer, I like to use these rules to
(00:03:56): amplify the narrative forces we've got and the fallout universe is just so fun for
(00:04:01): that so back to what i'm talking about back to this blog post i just put up our
(00:04:06): very first on the sub stack please go check that out uh it is oh let me get this
(00:04:11): link and let me get it correct uh is it in front of me i'm looking at the page but
(00:04:15): i don't think the link at the top is is the one i want
(00:04:20): It is tftfallout.substack.com.
(00:04:25): It's all linked in the description,
(00:04:26): so go no further than looking there,
(00:04:29): and you should find it easily.
(00:04:30): But that's tftfallout.substack.com.
(00:04:35): It will be a wonderful repository for recaps of episodes, for...
(00:04:42): We're going to try and upload these in video and audio form, our actual play series.
(00:04:48): So look out for that.
(00:04:48): I'll get into more detail as we go on.
(00:04:50): That's going to be hosted live on Twitch.
(00:04:52): It's going to be archived on YouTube.
(00:04:54): But let me stick with this post.
(00:04:56): The Descent into the Wendigo's Grotto is a capstone of their Session Zero,
(00:05:02): this prelude to the real game,
(00:05:06): the broadcast game.
(00:05:08): For us, it has been real.
(00:05:09): But at the same time, it has also been...
(00:05:11): an experiment, a test bed.
(00:05:13): We have loose rules because we want people to have fun.
(00:05:16): We let people respect if they need to.
(00:05:19): So for any rule, try hard, you know, by the book people out there, please
(00:05:27): Cut us some slack here.
(00:05:28): We're just in this for the narrative storytelling.
(00:05:32): I'm a guy that likes to play games and rules as honestly as I can,
(00:05:36): but I'll never let that hinder our experience because no player should ever feel
(00:05:40): frustrated at the table,
(00:05:41): sad at the table,
(00:05:42): you know,
(00:05:43): any sort of left out feeling.
(00:05:46): We want these rules again to work for the people.
(00:05:48): And as such, you're going to get to dive into all of this and hear my thoughts as I go forward.
(00:05:54): If you like this kind of rambly style podcast, I'm sure you're going to get more of them.
(00:05:58): But I want to info dump.
(00:05:59): I want to show people some behind the scenes stuff.
(00:06:02): I've been a video game streamer on Twitch for a couple years.
(00:06:04): I played Fallout 76 on Twitch on and off for a couple years,
(00:06:08): but I've never done anything with tabletops before,
(00:06:11): but I am just in love with it.
(00:06:12): I have been watching tabletops since around
(00:06:16): And only, I mean, it's pretty recently, but let's say December of 2023.
(00:06:21): So now we've just, you know, arched one year of me doing that.
(00:06:25): And it's a whole world that I just didn't get into.
(00:06:28): I mentioned in college,
(00:06:29): I tried it once,
(00:06:30): just wasn't the right fit,
(00:06:31): wasn't the right like ongoing group.
(00:06:33): either probably wasn't even the right universe for me potentially that's a whole
(00:06:37): other aspect is I you know I'm a guy that's watching Critical Role on YouTube and
(00:06:41): I'm really loving that I like a lot of personalities there but honestly I don't
(00:06:45): know that I could set myself in a high fantasy universe as a dungeon master or as a
(00:06:51): game master I think as a player I could really dig that it's actually Baldur's Gate
(00:06:56): 3 that got this this door popped open in my life so it was just a magical
(00:07:01): coincidence of finding
(00:07:04): let's say Baldur's Gate 3,
(00:07:06): which made me want to check out Critical Role,
(00:07:08): which made me want to check out their Candela Obscura stuff.
(00:07:12): I bought a book for that.
(00:07:13): I've got that to try later.
(00:07:15): But before I could even get forward with that,
(00:07:18): I saw this great,
(00:07:19): you know,
(00:07:19): an ad on Instagram from Modiphius that did work.
(00:07:23): It caught my eye, and I said, wow, let's check out this.
(00:07:27): I checked out their game,
(00:07:29): bought myself a copy,
(00:07:31): and friends came together around the virtual table.
(00:07:34): So here we are.
(00:07:35): Without further ado,
(00:07:37): let's actually dive into this post,
(00:07:39): and I will give some thoughts afterwards.
(00:07:41): I'm going to,
(00:07:42): well,
(00:07:42): maybe even pause after some of these paragraphs,
(00:07:44): but this is an introductory episode for folks,
(00:07:47): so I want to keep this as user-friendly as possible,
(00:07:51): but also knowing that we're
(00:07:53): We're going to be doing more breakdowns as time goes on.
(00:07:56): So, Descent into the Wendigo's Grotto.
(00:07:59): In this week's thrilling episode of Tales from Tomorrow,
(00:08:02): Under the Mothman's Embrace,
(00:08:04): our new Fallout 2D20 campaign broadcast live on Twitch,
(00:08:09): our intrepid wasteland survivors found themselves departing from the relative
(00:08:13): safety of Rusty Bones Farm.
(00:08:16): Despite urgent messages from the troubled town of Hope requesting their immediate return,
(00:08:23): our heroes,
(00:08:25): I said that out of order,
(00:08:26): pardon me,
(00:08:26): let me rewind that.
(00:08:27): Despite urgent messages from the troubled town of Hope requesting their immediate return,
(00:08:32): our heroes chose to pursue their missing colleague,
(00:08:35): Hell's Bells,
(00:08:36): luring them to investigate the strange stillness in the hills now punctuated by the
(00:08:42): disorientation of immense radiation.
(00:08:45): Okay, so what's going on here?
(00:08:47): In the very early days of the game,
(00:08:49): the very,
(00:08:49): very start when the players are doing the very basics of learning combat,
(00:08:55): they stumbled upon a Protectron who helped guide them to a nearby town.
(00:09:01): The Protectron had gotten injured.
(00:09:03): It was dispatched by Foundation far in Appalachia South,
(00:09:08): or at least on the Fallout 76 map in the South.
(00:09:10): It was dispatched up north to try to greet the
(00:09:14): wary travelers on the road, just like this.
(00:09:16): However,
(00:09:17): it getting damaged,
(00:09:18): probably not so expected,
(00:09:20): though it was programmed to return to possible settlements that could render aid
(00:09:26): and repair.
(00:09:27): That's what led them to the town of Hope.
(00:09:29): When they got there,
(00:09:30): the town was under attack by Meyerlurks,
(00:09:33): not at the exact moment,
(00:09:34): but at the night before,
(00:09:36): and a new raid was happening that night.
(00:09:39): This led them to team up with a couple different people in the town,
(00:09:44): a robot repairman named Tom Clifton.
(00:09:46): He's been sort of the leader of the town alongside his handy mechanic assistant, Lena.
(00:09:53): There is the Dr. Jacob in the town.
(00:09:58): And who else?
(00:09:59): Terry the Traitor.
(00:10:01): as the general goods salesman in there.
(00:10:03): They've got this cool vibe going on where they've been rebuilding the town.
(00:10:07): They've been helping build barricades.
(00:10:10): They reactivated some dormant protectrons that were in the police department.
(00:10:14): They now repurpose those to serve as defense of the town.
(00:10:18): Um...
(00:10:19): That actually went rather well.
(00:10:21): They were able to fend off a Mirelurk attack that happened in one of their first or
(00:10:25): second nights in this area of hope.
(00:10:28): They met up with another player character at the time, Hells Bells.
(00:10:31): Cool friend, but we've unfortunately sort of lost touch with her over the months.
(00:10:36): Very awesome person, very busy.
(00:10:39): And now her character's sort of in my domain now to do as we will.
(00:10:43): And that comes...
(00:10:45): a question I'll try and loop this together sensibly but just to say shortly
(00:10:49): Hell's Bells is missing it's related to a quest that they get sent on briefly
(00:10:55): So as they're defending this town from Mirelurks, they start exploring.
(00:10:59): They start, you know, again, repurposing police protectrons.
(00:11:03): They go into some other buildings and they loot.
(00:11:06): Our one player,
(00:11:07): Raven,
(00:11:08): managed to grab a mushroom in a house that wound up infecting her with spores,
(00:11:14): like a necrotic type of mushroom.
(00:11:17): It was a bit of an affair.
(00:11:19): It was a two-session sort of incident where she started hallucinating and thought
(00:11:25): she was seeing aliens.
(00:11:27): It was a wonderful vibe,
(00:11:30): and this very much built up our desire to play this game and bring it forward.
(00:11:37): One of the things the town had been pressing them to do while all of this is going
(00:11:41): on in the background,
(00:11:42): all this exploration,
(00:11:43): the town was pressing them to go to a radio tower to reconnect and get signal so
(00:11:51): they could chat from the town of Hope down to Foundation.
(00:11:57): I kind of said looking at the map that with the...
(00:12:01): mountain range that's there with hope being behind it with foundation being on the
(00:12:05): direct opposite side that these radio antennas and transmitters they couldn't go
(00:12:11): that far they had to activate another substation that's nearby that became their
(00:12:16): big mission that became the mission that health bells also departed to do in fact
(00:12:21): Hell's Bells takes a group of soldiers to go and activate this radio station
(00:12:26): because our player characters,
(00:12:28): Sam,
(00:12:29): Raven,
(00:12:29): and Jim,
(00:12:31): all get stuck with this necrotic fungus in town.
(00:12:35): That became, again, quite an affair.
(00:12:39): So they dispatch this other group of NPCs up there to try and get the antenna online.
(00:12:47): This is where Hell's Bells goes missing.
(00:12:49): So our players get their fungus taken care of.
(00:12:53): They're not infected anymore.
(00:12:55): But in the process, they had found a couple other interesting things in the town.
(00:12:59): One was a kind of a Nuka-Cola slash Slocum Joe's cafe bar thing.
(00:13:07): And in there, there was a lot of pink goo.
(00:13:10): You follow out four players might know some of that.
(00:13:13): However, the in-game characters did not know that very well.
(00:13:17): It turns out that the town did start to eat some of this.
(00:13:20): In this pink goo case,
(00:13:22): the way this worked was they have a near,
(00:13:25): the town has a very large supply of pink goo and it's in these sort of insertable containers.
(00:13:33): When you insert it,
(00:13:34): the machine in question turns the pink goo into as close of an approximation of the
(00:13:42): real food.
(00:13:43): That is to say, it almost 3D prints with pink goo.
(00:13:47): So it's now like a step up from the high school experiment to now you can make
(00:13:53): Slocum Joe donuts out of pink goo with the press of a button,
(00:13:57): effectively.
(00:13:58): That was the shtick of the place that they looted.
(00:14:01): And now the townsfolk are sort of eating that pink goo, which may have problems.
(00:14:06): They also determined,
(00:14:08): our players,
(00:14:08): they determined that there was a vault tech facility in town.
(00:14:14): It was very innocuous,
(00:14:17): sort of maybe more of a shell type of thing,
(00:14:21): where they had two different stores running.
(00:14:26): on Main Street purchased out.
(00:14:28): One was a sort of a quack guru health person who was pushing some cream to help
(00:14:36): people open up their chakras and such before the war.
(00:14:40): And what it wound up being was this very highly irradiated cream people were
(00:14:44): putting on them and it was turning them into ghouls.
(00:14:46): Well, this...
(00:14:47): sort of wound up being an experiment from Vault-Tec who was in the shop next door.
(00:14:51): They had rented out the space next to it,
(00:14:54): which I,
(00:14:55): pardon me that off the top of my head,
(00:14:57): I don't remember what we said at the time.
(00:14:58): It was some sort of just very kind of basic sales front.
(00:15:03): It wasn't something that would attract the eye.
(00:15:05): And I believe I remember saying that to the players that like the Vault-Tec
(00:15:10): office was not decked out in vault boy icons but instead very business boring so
(00:15:17): that it's ignored and in that office they were actually watching into the the quack
(00:15:22): guru doctor next door they were seeing through the looking glass there was a um a
(00:15:27): flippable kind of two-way one-way mirror sort of vibe going on two-way mirror
(00:15:32): that's the word for it
(00:15:33): Anyway, they figure this out.
(00:15:35): It gives them some leads to the future.
(00:15:37): Other things they could check out.
(00:15:39): A Fallout, I'm sorry, a Vault-Tec warehouse that could be nearby.
(00:15:42): And as they're beginning their travels,
(00:15:45): or beginning to get ready for their travels,
(00:15:47): they decide to bring Lena with them.
(00:15:49): They're going to go pursue after Hell's Bells, pursue up to this tower.
(00:15:53): The town's in an okay spot.
(00:15:55): It's a little bit worried about the...
(00:15:57): The fungus coming back,
(00:15:59): the townspeople were worried about Mirelurk still coming in,
(00:16:02): but for the time being,
(00:16:03): it's okay,
(00:16:03): and they decide they're going to use this window to go.
(00:16:06): They go on their way, they find some raiders that you see marked on the map.
(00:16:10): The raiders had a weird encounter where they had been attacked by Mothman cultists.
(00:16:15): And the cultists were strong enough to actually kidnap,
(00:16:19): like steal away,
(00:16:20): maybe kill a raider in power armor.
(00:16:23): So that's something of interest.
(00:16:25): The raiders otherwise that are in the road allowed them to pass.
(00:16:29): These were free state raiders.
(00:16:31): Is that the word for it?
(00:16:31): No, no, no, no, no.
(00:16:34): That's not it.
(00:16:35): It's not the free states.
(00:16:37): Kyle, West, Virginia Lumber Mill.
(00:16:40): Let's see.
(00:16:40): What is it?
(00:16:41): I'm drawing a blank on the group that's in there.
(00:16:44): I had it at the time.
(00:16:45): Don't have it now.
(00:16:47): Free radicals!
(00:16:48): Okay, there we go.
(00:16:49): I call them free states.
(00:16:51): That's the other group.
(00:16:52): But these are the free radical raiders.
(00:16:54): So these free radical raiders come from the West Virginia lumber mill.
(00:16:58): And for that reason,
(00:17:00): free radical raiders being a lot of ex-cons,
(00:17:04): I don't consider this faction to be...
(00:17:08): violent or interraiding for the same reason that other raiders are.
(00:17:12): At least that's sort of the way that I'm playing this in my franchise of it.
(00:17:20): We're not playing them up as violent.
(00:17:21): In fact, this is something that the players have gotten
(00:17:25): Sort of invitations to work with them a little bit more.
(00:17:28): They've been reluctant so far, but they met with these free radical raiders.
(00:17:32): They let them pass.
(00:17:34): The free radicals were very worried about their comrades that had been killed the
(00:17:37): night before in this bloody attack by the Mothman cultists.
(00:17:41): But our people travel forward.
(00:17:44): I did forget to mention that one of their adventures in the town netted them a Mr.
(00:17:48): Handy unit who is named Alfred.
(00:17:51): He follows them along as long as they want him.
(00:17:54): And so they went on their adventure with Sam...
(00:17:57): who is a soldier of sorts raven who is our um she's a mothman cultist of her own
(00:18:03): she's using the tribal background um she is very big into using bows uh we got our
(00:18:11): friend jim in there he is the science guy and they decided to take lenna the
(00:18:17): mechanic and alfred the mr handy
(00:18:20): went on their way,
(00:18:20): you know,
(00:18:21): they passed these raiders,
(00:18:22): they wind up finding Rusty Dusty Bones' farm.
(00:18:27): Rusty Dusty Bones,
(00:18:29): maybe mentioned him a little bit earlier,
(00:18:30): he is a ghoul trader who's in on the caravan industry that's popping up all over
(00:18:36): the Fallout 76 map with the expansion of the Blue Ridge Caravan Company.
(00:18:41): He sells both above-board and below-board wares, both high-low.
(00:18:48): And I do apologize for any lore that I might be skipping or leaving out.
(00:18:52): There's quite a lot of it that has been experienced over the time,
(00:18:57): but we're almost up to present at this point.
(00:18:59): So they decide to help Rusty Dusty Bones with a couple things around his farm.
(00:19:03): They level up a couple times off of things like that.
(00:19:06): They wind up going up towards the radio antenna or radio station.
(00:19:12): They get in there,
(00:19:13): and the most interesting takeaway is that when they kick this place online with
(00:19:18): their presence,
(00:19:20): they find...
(00:19:22): that another entity is taking up some residence there now, MODIS.
(00:19:27): For those that know the Fallout 76 universe,
(00:19:30): MODIS has some,
(00:19:32): well,
(00:19:32): sinister connections,
(00:19:34): and I'll leave it a little bit at that without giving too many spoilers.
(00:19:38): They strike a deal with MODIS that they can use this antenna system.
(00:19:43): It's not a problem.
(00:19:44): Hope can now communicate with Foundation.
(00:19:47): But Modus is going to keep a watch over it.
(00:19:50): So now there's this sort of interesting relationship that is about to form and sort
(00:19:57): of be birthed into this game where people from Hope and or Foundation are going to
(00:20:02): go and try to occupy this radio antenna.
(00:20:08): uh and modus is allowing them to do that but that's going to put those soldiers
(00:20:14): those those settlers right into modus's connection uh whether that's a good thing
(00:20:20): or a great thing whether it's a bad thing or a terrible thing all of that will be
(00:20:26): determined on their way to and from the
(00:20:30): tower radio station,
(00:20:31): they came across some disturbing evidence that their friend Hells Bells' crew had
(00:20:38): been knocked off course,
(00:20:40): to put it lightly.
(00:20:41): It seems from a note that they read that they were actually being hunted.
(00:20:45): And...
(00:20:47): now their job is to try and get them back.
(00:20:50): So a long backdrop, but I'll go ahead and reread this.
(00:20:54): So in this week's thrilling episode of Tales from Tomorrow,
(00:20:58): Under the Mothman's Embrace,
(00:21:00): our new Fallout 2D20 campaign broadcasts live on Twitch.
(00:21:04): Our intrepid wasteland survivors find themselves departing the relative safety of
(00:21:08): Rusty Bones' farm despite urgent messages from the troubled town of Hope requesting
(00:21:14): their immediate return to
(00:21:15): Our heroes chose to pursue their missing colleague,
(00:21:18): Howells Bells,
(00:21:19): luring them to investigate the strange stillness of the hills,
(00:21:23): now punctuated by the disorientation of immense radiation.
(00:21:28): I think a lot of that now will make sense that they came from the town of Hope.
(00:21:32): They are now looking for those missing colleagues.
(00:21:34): Hope is in need of help.
(00:21:35): There are people that are starting to depart it.
(00:21:37): There's food shortages, power shortages, water shortages.
(00:21:40): They need to go back and take care of that settlement."
(00:21:42): But Hell's Bells is missing, and they want to figure this out first.
(00:21:46): They noticed some stillness in the area where there were birds that weren't chirping.
(00:21:50): Sort of sound was desolate and gone.
(00:21:52): Maybe the animals had just all scurried off.
(00:21:54): And now we see that that area is a hotbed of radiation.
(00:21:59): It was messing with Alfred's sensors or optical radiation.
(00:22:03): sensors, his eyes, the Mr. Handy.
(00:22:05): And they wound up tracking,
(00:22:07): actually through Raven,
(00:22:09): finding some mushrooms,
(00:22:11): some glowing mushrooms,
(00:22:12): that they were able to find the access to a cave named the Magic Grotto.
(00:22:17): So let's dive into the next paragraph here.
(00:22:20): The team consisting of Raven, the stalwart scout, Sam,
(00:22:24): the resourceful survivor,
(00:22:26): Jim,
(00:22:26): the tech specialist,
(00:22:28): and their Mr.
(00:22:28): Handy companion,
(00:22:30): Alfred,
(00:22:30): ventured forth into the wasteland wilderness.
(00:22:33): With their vault-dwelling comrade,
(00:22:35): Amelia,
(00:22:36): absent,
(00:22:36): they were forced to rely on Alfred's sensors,
(00:22:39): though the high radiation levels in the area caused concerning malfunctions in the
(00:22:43): robot's optical systems.
(00:22:46): Jim's attempted modifications to Alfred's sensors went awry,
(00:22:53): leaving their mechanical companions slightly damaged.
(00:22:55): However,
(00:22:56): fortune,
(00:22:57): or perhaps misfortune,
(00:22:58): smiled upon them when ravens spotted an eerie trail of bioluminescent fungi,
(00:23:04): leading to what locals previously called the magic grotto.
(00:23:08): So they thought that they could,
(00:23:10): or maybe I even sort of pushed them to see if they could get Alfred to be able to
(00:23:15): see this radiation.
(00:23:16): It was affecting his optical systems,
(00:23:19): but I was wondering if their tech specialist,
(00:23:21): Jim,
(00:23:21): could tweak it.
(00:23:23): His dice rolls didn't land it,
(00:23:25): and in fact,
(00:23:25): he kind of,
(00:23:26): it was borderline between giving Alfred a debuff and not.
(00:23:30): It just sort of set him off so he couldn't do as much in combat,
(00:23:34): but it wasn't as firm of a debuff.
(00:23:36): But thanks to Raven's great foraging abilities, she helped find a path to this magic grotto.
(00:23:45): So the note continues here, the blog post.
(00:23:48): It says,
(00:23:58): was ambushed by a pack of feral ghouls rising from their seats and their graves.
(00:24:04): The ensuing battle took a dark turn when one of these irradiated horrors managed to
(00:24:09): capture Raven,
(00:24:11): dragging her into the depths of the cave.
(00:24:14): Following a harrowing pursuit through chambers filled with the grim remains of
(00:24:19): previous explorers,
(00:24:21): our team finally confronted the ghoul,
(00:24:24): only to face something far worse.
(00:24:27): The dreaded wendigo, a creature of pre-war nightmare, emerged from the shadows.
(00:24:33): The beast proved devastating,
(00:24:35): grievously wounding Jim before retreating with semi-fresh prey to feed upon.
(00:24:41): possibly Hell's Bells.
(00:24:44): We leave our heroes at this crucial moment trapped in a radioactive cave facing one
(00:24:49): of Appalachia's deadliest predators.
(00:24:51): Will they survive?
(00:24:53): Can they save their companion?
(00:24:55): And what dire circumstances await them back in hope where the population dwindles
(00:25:00): with each passing day?
(00:25:02): That is the blog post in summary.
(00:25:05): And I just have to say to anyone that's listened to all of this so far,
(00:25:09): Thank you for bearing with me.
(00:25:11): It has been a really fun, off-the-cuff brain dump.
(00:25:14): I sort of thought about putting notes together to read off of,
(00:25:18): but that always feels so bland and a little impersonal to me.
(00:25:22): And I meant notes thicker than what I just read as the blog post.
(00:25:25): I did want to turn that into some sort of audio format so people can listen online.
(00:25:30): Although I'll point out that Substack allows you to press a play button,
(00:25:35): and I do believe it has a robot AI voice that reads it out.
(00:25:38): So this is something I might do in the future is give my own thoughts on these weekly recaps.
(00:25:43): It's something I might want to be a little bit careful of so that I'm not giving my
(00:25:46): players too big of spoilers just in case I want to give the audience a clue,
(00:25:51): but not them.
(00:25:52): So just note to myself.
(00:25:54): But the
(00:25:55): the game has been going on like I said for something near eight approximately
(00:25:58): months it's been so wonderful diving into Fallout lore and my comrades have been
(00:26:03): such great sports about this I'm so excited to bring this to all of you and I want
(00:26:09): to mention again the different ways we're going to do this
(00:26:11): I think the Substack will be the primary hub of it.
(00:26:14): It's going to get these blog posts and it's going to host the podcast.
(00:26:19): The podcasts are going to be multiple things.
(00:26:21): The podcast will be the actual plays without video.
(00:26:24): They will be also just deep dives on...
(00:26:28): lore from my perspective what it's like to build out the game and sort of as I
(00:26:33): tease the bottom other things that are coming soon we'll do some character profiles
(00:26:37): player profiles behind the scenes art things that I kind of make for the game we
(00:26:42): could do some chats about the game development you and I maybe have some of the
(00:26:46): other players come in here and around Robin and join us something like that and as
(00:26:51): I mentioned there there is discord access you can go check
(00:26:54): that out as well the substack though if you go to it tftfallout.substack.com it has
(00:27:01): a link to the podcast the discord the twitch the youtube and more all across the
(00:27:05): top bar hopefully you can see that easily uh but the podcast will again be a mix of
(00:27:12): sort of behind the scenes it will be uh
(00:27:14): live plays or actual plays the discord is a great place for people to go in there
(00:27:19): and share memes to share some ai art to share all kinds of cool things related to
(00:27:24): fallout and also to hopefully meet up and start doing extra games ourselves the
(00:27:30): twitch page i highly recommend you check out usually i'm over there streaming some
(00:27:34): type of politics but uh
(00:27:36): We're going to try and get more going on with Fallout in the universe just between
(00:27:39): Fallout 76 and especially the game.
(00:27:42): We want to stream that live so people can have something to do on Sunday nights to
(00:27:45): get a little relaxation in their mind.
(00:27:47): And then over on YouTube, the actual plays will live and exist.
(00:27:52): And the tag for that page is TFT underscore Fallout.
(00:27:56): So Tales from Tomorrow.
(00:27:58): By the way, it's sort of a spin on...
(00:28:02): Astoundingly Awesome Tales.
(00:28:04): I like this name because Tales from Tomorrow,
(00:28:07): this is sort of us telling a future that's very similar to our own,
(00:28:11): slightly altered to our own,
(00:28:13): but becoming more true every single day.
(00:28:16): So I hope you enjoy this little episode I've put together for you.
(00:28:21): I will upload this to...
(00:28:24): youtube and it will probably go out there in the podcast feed as well uh i hope
(00:28:29): this background has been helpful and i might come in and do these in the future if
(00:28:33): people have ideas let's let's do this as a back and forth i could sit here and
(00:28:38): lament all night and think what did i leave out what did i leave out but i'll leave
(00:28:42): that to you to ask those questions what did i leave out what do you want to know
(00:28:45): more about our players you'll get to know them even more we are uh by the way this
(00:28:50): is a very important note probably should have said this sooner
(00:28:53): Why are we taking it to Twitch now?
(00:28:55): Well,
(00:28:56): not only is it the beginning of 2025,
(00:28:58): which seems like a great time,
(00:29:00): but also that our players are hitting that capstone.
(00:29:03): This, as you probably heard, the Wendigo plot is the end of them going far away from hope.
(00:29:09): They've activated a radio tower and they found the other people that were sent to
(00:29:13): activate this radio tower.
(00:29:15): They found that they are missing, that they are injured.
(00:29:17): They found that it takes them to this cave.
(00:29:19): And so this to them is the conclusion of that plot.
(00:29:23): Once they get back to hope,
(00:29:27): that will sort of be the big part of season one starting for me.
(00:29:32): If this is season zero still, that would be season one.
(00:29:36): And also to our new people that are tuning in or anyone that's just coming around
(00:29:41): because they found this,
(00:29:42): A lot of the reason we didn't do season zero as a live thing was confidence, right?
(00:29:48): Just full admission.
(00:29:49): Again, we're all new to this.
(00:29:50): I'm brand new to DMing it.
(00:29:51): They're new to playing it.
(00:29:53): No one knew anything about this.
(00:29:55): I don't think any...
(00:29:57): Yeah, I don't think any of us have real, like, stage experience.
(00:30:01): I have, like, the most minor amount, but not really.
(00:30:06): Like, you know, this is a new experience for me telling stories like this.
(00:30:11): I've not created or sort of managed my own little mental franchise like that before,
(00:30:18): meaning I'm using Bethesda's lore before.
(00:30:21): But it's my twist on it,
(00:30:23): and I'm building out my own areas for it,
(00:30:25): my own cities,
(00:30:26): and my own narrative to it.
(00:30:29): So it's very, very fun.
(00:30:29): I welcome good feedback from people.
(00:30:33): That's, I guess, another thing to perfectly conclude this episode with.
(00:30:36): is to set some respectful boundaries because that will lead to the best
(00:30:40): relationship between us as the players,
(00:30:44): the GM,
(00:30:45): and everyone else,
(00:30:46): the audience,
(00:30:47): the supporters,
(00:30:48): the people who are making this experience even more fun for us.
(00:30:52): The boundary being that I...
(00:30:54): do have a vision for this game.
(00:30:57): And I love people's feedback.
(00:31:00): But that is a good thing to call out that I ask people to be respectful about my
(00:31:05): decisions for the game.
(00:31:06): I'm asking that in advance.
(00:31:08): I watch a lot of actual plays myself over on YouTube.
(00:31:12): Love the channel Arcane Arcade.
(00:31:14): Shout out to them.
(00:31:16): Shout out to Critical Role.
(00:31:17): I love that sort of stuff.
(00:31:18): And I watch some other great creators like Crab,
(00:31:21): who talks about what a nightmare game master is like.
(00:31:25): So with all that in mind,
(00:31:26): I say I want us to have a really good exchange,
(00:31:30): us,
(00:31:30): the creators of the game and everyone else,
(00:31:32): the audience,
(00:31:33): the participators in it,
(00:31:35): that...
(00:31:35): I've got a vision.
(00:31:37): I like when people give ideas,
(00:31:39): but if someone's idea does not get incorporated,
(00:31:42): don't take that as a slight.
(00:31:44): I'm a guy that's very slow to take people's feedback.
(00:31:46): Like I hear it, I go, I don't know about that.
(00:31:48): And then I think about it for like a day or a week or a month.
(00:31:51): And I usually end up implementing it in some way,
(00:31:54): shape or form because the feedback's mostly good all the time.
(00:31:57): You know, I really like getting people's comments.
(00:32:00): And so if you're someone that...
(00:32:03): likes that boundary too and respects that boundary like i say i just got a
(00:32:06): direction for the game i play it very reflexively so um wherever the players want
(00:32:11): to go i'm happy to write the story for them that's why i welcome all these
(00:32:15): different general ideas if you say something in a suggestion it might get brought
(00:32:19): up and worked into it later but please also be respectful that it might not be
(00:32:24): worked in the exact way as you said it because it needs to fit our
(00:32:28): narrative more than than anything else right where even the rules that modifius has
(00:32:32): set out these are just our guidelines more than they are dictates as to how we
(00:32:39): exactly play i hope this all makes sense to people i am so excited to have your
(00:32:43): input on this journey fallout is best played with friends
(00:32:47): And this game is a great one.
(00:32:49): There's so much ripe soil,
(00:32:52): just so many good fertile soil,
(00:32:54): ripe fruit,
(00:32:54): great opportunities to be planting these wonderful seeds to grow.
(00:32:58): Literally, the foundation system is just awesome.
(00:33:01): And my players are starting to get really into their characters.
(00:33:05): We're really starting to spread our wings with it.
(00:33:08): So 2025, we'll have YouTube videos.
(00:33:11): We'll have the sub stack, which has newsletter and blog posts.
(00:33:13): It's also going to have the podcast podcast.
(00:33:15): which you should soon be able to find on all your favorite podcast players soon to
(00:33:19): be on apple and all the others it'll even be up on youtube that'll that'll put the
(00:33:24): podcasts up there automatically so look out for all of it very fun tales from
(00:33:29): tomorrow and i hope to talk to you very soon with a new little developer update i
(00:33:33): might call these my dev diaries i don't know my dm diaries my overseer logs is that
(00:33:38): what they're called overseer logs is that a cool idea
(00:33:42): Maybe these will be overseer logs.
(00:33:44): I like that.
(00:33:46): Ooh, I think that's what I'll do.
(00:33:48): I was going to post this up there, uh, on the sub stack and rewrite like overwrite.
(00:33:53): I had a little AI voice narrate the blog post originally,
(00:33:57): but I'm going to do this one as a dev diary,
(00:33:59): uh,
(00:34:00): an overseer log,
(00:34:02): and I will post that in addition this week.
(00:34:05): That's very cool.
(00:34:06): So, um,
(00:34:07): Thank you for listening to my rambles.
(00:34:08): I promise I will continue to ramble your ears off as we do this in the future.
(00:34:13): I hope to see you live over on Twitch Sunday nights.
(00:34:16): We do this at 7.30 p.m.
(00:34:17): Eastern time.
(00:34:18): Ask questions.
(00:34:19): Join the Discord server.
(00:34:21): Subscribe to the Substack.
(00:34:23): Like, share, subscribe.
(00:34:24): Thank you all a million times over.
(00:34:26): And be safe.
