Hello comrades - it’s an exciting week! Today we’re announcing the official launch of our second Marxist Book Club section hosted on Saturdays at 6 pm New York City time. We’re calling this our “Long-Form” book club night as this group will read larger books that require additional meetings.
Don’t worry, Thursday night book clubs aren’t going anywhere! In fact, we encourage you to join both. If you have the mental bandwidth and the time, you’ll learn at double the speed. Each book club (short and long form) are tackling crucial Marxist texts.
As many of my recurring readers know, I’ve been toying around with different formats for the newsletter. With all blogging tools, each have pros and each have cons. In this issue, I’ve tried to truncate the topics into groups. I had noticed the newsletters were getting extremely long in the table of contents. Let me know your thoughts on this format as we move forward!

Working Class History on Instagram: "On this day, 19 June 1937, the Women's Day massacre took place when police killed 16 people and injured nearly 300 when striking steelworkers' wives and children demonstrated in their support in Youngstown, Ohio. Workers at Republic Steel had gone on strike when 1,000 union supporters were sacked. Strikers' wives organised a Women's Day to support the men, but the presence of women angered the police captain, who ordered the women to leave. When they refused, instead spitting and cursing at the officers, police fired tear gas at the women, children and even babies. This outraged the workers who rushed to the scene to defend their families. Then police began shooting, killing and wounding scores. Many of those were shot in the back as they ran from the police.
