Hello comrades! Thanks for joining me for our weekly news recap. I apologize we didn’t have an update on Thursday, but I was very sick with a head and chest cold last week. As a result, I decided to give you one bigger, better newsletter than 2 smaller ones.
I really want to encourage you to read the Music section this week! We link back to a Soviet magazine called, “Krugozor.” You can listen along as the site we feature has compiled music.
I’ve already got a lot of news stories to cover on Thursday, so stay tuned! And as always, if you’d like to submit news articles or write for the newsletter, send me a message on Discord!

🎧 Music
Comrades - this was an unexpected find! I was scrolling Instagram when I saw someone post these interesting album covers. I followed their link and found a great site full of information on a Soviet magazine called “Krugozor.”
The Krugozor magazine was a Soviet publication that included music, literature, and art. The magazine was published from 1964 to 1991 and included flexi-discs with recordings of music. There are several Russian-language websites with images of the magazine covers and digitized recordings of the music. There are few English-language resources, but there is a play called Krugozor! that tells the story of two young people growing up in the waning days of the Soviet Union who are obsessed with Western rock music and the magazine.
The Name - Krugozor, or кругозор in Cyrillic, means “outlook” or “horizon.” Michael Idov, the author of Made in Russia, says it is “a beautifully subtle pun … that incorporates the word for ‘circle’ or ’round’ (‘krug’).”

“Disneyland Paris workers are on strike
At least 1000 workers from Disneyland Paris are currently on strike, asking for better work conditions and pay rises.
The first demand concerns the organization of working hours. According to Ahmed Masrour, union delegate, employees are suffering from hyper-flexibility.
It's a real pain. We're sometimes on the move for a few hours at a time, often with shifts that vary from one day to the next. "Fabien Beiersdorff, General Secretary of the CGT Disney union, adds: "It's a disaster for both health and family life.
The other part of the demands is financial. An increase of 200 euros per month, double pay on Sundays and an increase in mileage allowances. "We're asking for the latter to be doubled too," explains Fabien Beiersdorff.
As Ahmed Masrour explains: "All they're offering us is a 125 euro bonus and an advance on our 13th month. It's completely off the table."
