Hello, Comrades - in this blog post, we start with the news covering the Communist Party of Britain's criticism of the monarchy and their call for the abolition of all powers and institutions relating to the monarchy. The second topic discusses the recent shooting in Texas with a suspected neo-Nazi motive, where eight people were killed and seven others wounded. The next highlights the murder of Jordan Neely, a 30-year-old homeless man who was killed on a New York City subway train. Finally we look at the US increasing its military presence in the Philippines, citing the need to "strengthen security in the face of the Chinese threat."
In Marxist History, we take a look at the MOVE bombing - the time the US police bombed a home in Philidelphia in the 1980s.
Before we jump into the reading, I want to point your attention to the rebranded podcast, “Kyle’s Communist Podcast” which can serve as an audio companion to the written newsletters.
Pioneer week
Pioneer week is a celebration of the Young Pioneers, a communist youth organization that existed in the Soviet Union and other countries from 1922 until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The celebration technically only takes place on May 19th each year, but to spread awareness for this hidden holiday, we’re making it into a week of content!
In the next issue, you’ll learn all about the inception of the Young Pioneers and read thought from friends who participated in the organization. The Pioneers were organized into groups by age, and their activities included learning about communism, participating in community service projects, and attending summer camps. The Pioneer Anthem, "Clash of the Fires, Blue Nights," was a popular song associated with the organization. Today, Pioneer week is celebrated by some socialist and communist groups as a way to honor the history and legacy of the Young Pioneers.

“The Communist Party of Britain on the coronation of Charles III and the monarchy”
The Communist Party of Britain criticizes the coronation of Charles III and the monarchy, calling for the abolition of all powers and institutions relating to the monarchy and their replacement with an elected head of state for ceremonial purposes. They argue that the monarchy embodies the gross inequalities, privilege, and anti-democratic nature of British society, and that dissenting voices have been silenced while the ruling class and mass media promote the spectacle. The Communist Party demands a massive transfer of wealth from the capitalist class to the working class and proposes popular sovereignty based on the people and their elected representatives in parliaments, governments, and mass movements.
Police have arrested and detained women's safety volunteers as well as peaceful protestors against the monarchy.
In some cases, people were arrested before they had done anything at all, in effect as though they had committed 'thought crime'.
The Communist Party refuses to celebrate a monarchy inseparable from its part in Britain's record as a reactionary colonial and imperialist power.
In place of servile oaths to serve the head of an aristocratic family forevermore and pious phrases about 'serving the nation' and 'helping the poor', the Communist Party demands a massive transfer of wealth from the capitalist class to the working class.
“Texas gunman who killed eight had ‘neo-Nazi’ ideation, say officials”
Summary:
The gunman who killed eight people and wounded seven others at a suburban Dallas shopping mall had "neo-Nazi ideation" and a fascination with white supremacy and mass shootings, according to officials. The shooter, Mauricio Garcia, had no prior criminal record but was discharged from the US army in 2008 because of mental health issues. Among the dead were two elementary school-age sisters, a couple and their three-year-old son, and a security guard.
“Jordan Neely’s murder on the New York City subway and the terminal crisis of capitalism”
Summary:
The murder of Jordan Neely on a New York City subway train highlights the social inequality and polarization in America, revealing the risks faced by the most oppressed and vulnerable sections of the working class. The murder has led to increased discussion of mental health treatment, but this ignores the underlying issues of social conditions and economic inequality. The responsibility for the murder lies with the ruling elite of New York City and American capitalism as a whole, and the reforms needed can only be won through revolutionary struggle against the capitalist system.
Ten days after the chokehold strangulation of Jordan Neely on a New York City subway train, Daniel Penny was finally charged with second-degree manslaughter in the homicide. Neely, a 30-year-old homeless man with a history of mental illness, was killed by the 24-year-old Penny, a former US Marine, who held Neely in a chokehold for at least four minutes, an action that was witnessed by scores of passengers and captured on video. Penny was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court Friday morning. He did not enter a plea, and was released after posting $100,000 bail.
“Yankees increase their military presence in the Philippines”
Summary: The US and the Philippines have agreed to increase the number of US military bases in the Philippines from five to nine, citing the need to "strengthen security in the face of the Chinese threat." The US is using the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) signed in 2014 to increase its economic and military presence in the region, with the intention of preventing China from increasing its dominance in the area. The location of the bases is no coincidence, being positioned very close to Taiwan, which China claims as its rightful historical territory. The increase in military presence is seen as a way for the US to continue to sell more military weaponry to Taiwan and increase military industry profits. Meanwhile, the New People's Army (NPA) in the Philippines launched a series of armed actions in the southern part of the island of Panay from May 2 to May 8, showing the strength and vitality of the People's War in the Philippines.

I’ve recently decided to rebrand it as an accompanying podcast to this letter. The podcast is expected to air on Mondays recapping Thursday’s letter and teasing a bit of what this one includes.
The podcast is titled “Kyle’s Communist Podcast” to keep it nice and simple. 😉

Comrades - do you know of the Young Pioneers? Did you know May 19 is Pioneer Day? In Thursday’s newsletter, we’re doing a deep dive on the subject!
Youth groups are incredibly important to the formation of revolutionary activities, and the US even had their own Pioneers in the 1920s-1930s.
In the meantime, get into the spirit with the Pioneer Anthem, "Clash of the Fires, Blue Nights.”
English Lyrics
●▬▬▬▬☭★★★★★☭▬▬▬▬●
Blow up the fires, Blue Nights!
We, the pioneers, Are the children of the workers.
The time of bright years is coming,
The Pioneer's cry: "Always be ready!"
With joyful step, with joyful song
We follow the Komsomol.
The time of bright years is approaching,
The Pioneer's cry: "Always be ready!"
We raise the Red Banner,
Children of the workers bravely follow us.
The time of bright years is at hand,
The Pioneer's cry, "Always be ready!"
"Blue nights, blaze with bonfires!
We, the Pioneers, Children of the workers.
The time of bright years is approaching
The Pioneer's cry: "Always be ready!"

May 13 - US Police Bomb Black People - MOVE
Working Class History on Instagram:
"On this day, 13 May 1985, Philadelphia police attacked the home of Black liberation and environmentalist group MOVE with automatic weapons, then dropped a bomb on it, killing five adults and six children, destroying 61 homes in the predominantly Black neighbourhood, and making 250 people homeless.
Almost 500 police officers fired over 10,000 rounds of ammunition into the house, which was filled with women and children, while other officers blew holes in the walls with explosives. The police commissioner then ordered the house to be bombed, which they did using an improvised device made from C4 given to them by the FBI. Only two people survived the blast and ensuing fire: Ramona Africa, and Michael Ward, aged 13.
While no officials were prosecuted, Ramona Africa was subsequently jailed for seven years on riot and conspiracy charges. The incident occurred during the tenure of Philadelphia's first Black mayor, a Democrat named Wilson Goode. The children killed were named Katricia Dotson (Tree), Netta, Delitia, Phil, and Tomasa Africa and the adults were Rhonda, Teresa, Frank, CP, Conrad, and John Africa.
In April 2021, it was revealed that anthropologists at Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania had the bones of one of the children, unbeknownst to the families. More information, sources and map: https://stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8508/move-bombing
The Philadelphia Inquirer on Instagram:
"Thirty-eight years ago today the City of Philadelphia dropped a bomb on a rowhouse on Osage Avenue belonging to MOVE, a West Philadelphia-based Black liberation and activist group. The bombing and fire killed 11 people — six MOVE members and five of their children — and destroyed 61 homes in West Philadelphia. On that day, police besieged the MOVE rowhouse for hours, firing rounds of bullets, water cannons, and smoke grenades, and pumping tear gas into the home, before eventually dropping a bomb on its roof. The city then let the fire burn to destroy the bunker atop the home as the then-fire commissioner promised that his firefighters could control the blaze. But the fire engulfed the house and spread to 60 others, decimating the predominantly Black neighborhood. In 2020, Philadelphia City Council officially apologized for the bombing, and established May 13 as “an annual day of observation, reflection and recommitment.” Visit the link in our bio to read The Inquirer’s coverage of the MOVE bombing. 📝 by Tom Gralish / Staff, Larry Price and Gerald S. More Info
“One of the most important documentary films about fascism by Soviet director Mikhail Romm. Based entirely on newsreel shooting by cinematographers and photographers from Germany, the Soviet Union, the United States, Italy, Britain, and other countries, the film is based on authentic documents from numerous historical archives. The entire film is accompanied by the voiceover of film director Mikhail Romm. With anger and pain, with deep sadness, and at times with a murderous irony, he comments on events, reflects on dictatorships and dictators, on the crowd that submits to them and deifies them, speaking confidentially to the viewer. With his outstanding film, Mikhail Romm truly revolutionized documentary filmmaking.”
